There are three main ways which people on the internet can communicate with other people.
They can use email, which is the most commonly used method, or they can use the many chat channels across the internet, such as Chatplanet JAVA chat (which is contained within web pages as an applet) or mIRC, Internet Relay Chat, which runs as a standard program.
